There has been a lot of progress made over the past couple of days at the house... especially to the outside.
Thursday Update (2/7)
Since they were able to install the windows we already had gotten for the workshop and sunroom, they started on the siding back there. The rest of the windows were supposed to be delivered earlier in the week, but had not yet arrived, however this did not stop the crew from continuing to make progress. We both really appreciate that when something is delayed, they just sort of shift and continue to move forward on things that can be done. Our contractor has been great at really making sure the project is moving forward -- hopefully this means we will be in by close to our target date.
A lot of work was done to the car port to replace the siding on the workshop and also replacing the rotted out beams in that area. It is amazing how different everything is starting to look:
They also replaced the siding on the sunroom, since those windows had already been installed:
Friday Update (2/8)
On my "way" home from work, I decided to drive past the house and see if the windows had been delivered and installed. I was just "slightly" excited to see how the new windows looked. Much to my surprise (and excitement), they had been delivered and at least I knew that the front windows had been installed. Since I was in work clothes - I did not go in, but snapped a few pictures from the street.
Brian and I decided to go with 6 over 1 windows for majority of the house and I am really happy with the way they look:
After my "drive-by" visit to the house, Brian actually went to the house to check on the progress... and get a few pictures of some of the installed windows. The back of the house is starting to look really different:
Here are three of the four kitchen windows installed:
And some of the other windows that look into the court yard:
E's Room also has her egress window installed.... I guess you could call it her escape to the balcony:
After I went home and changed, based on Brian's report... I decided to go back to the house to see all the progress. Now when we drive up to the house - E says... "hooous" and gets excited. She doesn't want to be left out and always wants to go inside. When we get inside - she LOVES all the "piiiiink" wood throughout the house. Brian was upstairs when we walked in and from the opening snapped a picture of us.
Saturday Update (2/9)
This weekend the crew worked a half day and continued to make progress on both installing windows and the siding. We didn't bring the camera with us - so I only have a few pictures from my phone.
Love the way the 4 kitchen windows look:
And all the progress at the back of the house:
Here is the only picture I took of the inside. Love how open it now is and the full length windows:
Brian and I also tackled picking out most of our plumbing fixtures because the plumber needs our selections to get and install the valves behind the walls. Because we have been working on this project for so long and have spent tons of time researching and picking stuff out either through our NUMEROUSE visits to showrooms or even online... the process was much easier when we went to Ferguson to look at fixtures today. We actually got through most of it and selected what we needed. Not sure if you have ever been to any of the show rooms... but let's just say the selection process can be VERY overwhleming. After dinner we also wandered around Home Depot, hoping we would get a few tile ideas... not much, but as you can tell the house is very much on our minds and pretty consuming!
Think I am finally caught up on all the updates... until more work is done on Monday! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the windows installed and the next steps of progress made to the house!

Wonderful post! Your story is as interesting as your house. I love your house location. Having a big space for a garden in front and trees at the back is amazing! I can’t wait for your house to be finished. Good luck and I wish your family the best.

It’s nice to see things were coming along smoothly during this phase. For a major construction like this, you can only be thankful for even the littlest progress. How are things going, by the way? I’m sure once you moved in, the first thing you’d appreciate is the atmosphere inside. I think you have quite numerable windows, that’s why that came to mind. :] -->Isaac
ReplyDeleteThat is some huge house, Robyn! It's hard work to renovate a 1939 house. I assume everything has been done neatly by now. I see that you've made a lot of changes from the roof to the sidings of the house and to its windows. I can picture your house surrounded by a nice white fence now. We'd like to see the after the renovation pictures. Keep us updated. :)
