Kitchen Sink... Granite/Marble...Built-Ins... And Tile!!!

Our house is coming together... Pretty quickly the house is transforming and when we go by during the day - a lot of things are going on. I love it!! Last week I went and picked out the actual slabs of granite and marble for the house and they continued to make progress on the trim work and some of the built-ins. This week they are working on tile work in the bathrooms!

I am traveling for work the rest of the week and I know when I come home it is going to look really different! I cannot wait to see it all in person. This is a hard week to be gone from the house because so many of the finish details are being worked on... which has been what I have been working on since we started the project. Not that the placement of plugs, studs and other things has not been of interest... but I have left a lot of that to Brian and he has really left the design details (with his approval) up to me. In any case, I am confident - that when I come home there will be lots of exciting things to see in person! :)

Yesterday, very quickly before my flight out of town -- I went by to see the start of the tile work and to confirm that things were how they were supposed to be... very excited about it all. Brian sent pics from the end of the day of how much progress they had made... both secondary bathrooms had most of the bath tub tile in... and I love it. Have to give credit to Suzanne, who renovated a house in Austin, who gave me the idea to do a herringbone pattern with white subway tiles in the bathroom and it looks great. I was always doing herringbone for the brick floor in the mudroom and likely in the master bathroom, but I am not sure I would have thought of it with white subway tiles -- it looks great, so I am glad she gave me the idea!! E's bathroom is a brick pattern and will have a mint penny tile as the accent. Very happy with how hers looks so far too.

Since Beth asked... here is a picture of the sink... this isn't an actual picture of ours... but figured this one is better than one of it in the box:
Here are the pics of the slabs I picked out last week for the house... unfortunately, the slab for the island did not come out - but it is a black honed/leathered granite to contrast with the carrara in the kitchen.

Pretty sure this one is the polished marble for our bathroom:

And this is a picture of the honed marble for our kitchen:

Granite for secondary bathrooms and laundry room:

Built-ins in one of the secondary bedrooms:

Brian's office with the original hardwood floors all sanded down... cannot believe how good they look!

Attic Access panel is in:

Master bathroom Tub:

Wainscotting and in the nook you can kinda see the desk in E's Room:

And her book shelves for all of her dolls:

Here is the tile in E's bathroom... the strip missing will be mint green penny subway tiles:

And as I mentioned above -- the herringbone subway tile in the guest bathroom:

Lots of progress... I will do my best to post other updates as I get them from Brian. But for now... since I am on the other side of the world... I am going to try and get some rest.

  1. Thanks - the sink looks great!

Also, that is a great idea about the subway tile. It gives it a really nice look.

For me, the difference between "polished" and "honed" marble doesn't really translate in the pictures but the color and design is really nice.

Perhaps E should get a Bob the Builder for her great shelves since she's now an expert in construction!

    Safe travels!
