It is all about the details...

At the end of the day what you notice about a house are the finish details and not what is behind the walls... don't get me wrong, all that has been done to this point is important ... and that is why we did it all, but that is not what most people notice when they go into a home because they cannot see it. So far -- all the details have come together pretty close to what my vision was and I am very excited about that... Tile work and carpentry work has been the focus of the past few days... or weeks!! After getting home last weekend and showering, seeing E and Brian, I was ready to see the progress at the house in person! No surprises because everyone had sent photos while I was away, but it was confirmation of how well everything was coming together. Things over the next few weeks may be a little slow because the main cabinetry in the house has been held up... hopefully, it doesn't put us back too much and we are surprised by an early finish date!! Fingers crossed!

Starting on the stairwell - this is actually the "newell" from the original 1939 staircase. It was in good condition and since we have tried to keep some of the original things in the house, I thought it would be great if we could reuse it... obviously it will be cleaned up and refinished, but it is still original:

Top of the stairs:

Mudroom brick now complete - and the transition from the wood floors and the laundry room tile:

An original door with a crystal knob re-hung in the hallway upstairs:

Desk and shelves added to my nook area... notice the original shiplap that we left on the walls.

E's bathroom with tile and grout finished... you can see both the bathtub and the tile floor:

Guest bathroom tile finished on both the floor and the bathtub:

Starting on the tile work in our shower, the brick will go all the way to the floor and above will be a herringbone pattern (see it on the bench):

Master bathroom floor - herringbone marble - I love this:

Floor of the shower -- adding a little contrast to the bathroom (and the herringbone pattern which will be the top 1/3 of the shower laying on there):

They also floated the patio in the courtyard so they could lay the tile here this week:

Hopefully by the end of the week most of our bathroom will be finished and maybe some more of the wood work done (i.e. stairs, front door, etc.).... as things happen, I will continue to keep you posted! Have a great middle of the week!!
