Details.... Getting to Finished!

After the long holiday weekend, it was back to work on the house on Tuesday. Lots of details have been coming together and slowly, but surely - every idea that I have pinned on Pinterest or houzz is starting to look like the pictures, but in our house.  Since I am my own designer, I am thankful for all the online resources. I think it is also starting to feel more real because we listed our townhouse on Wednesday mid-day - which has been insane. We have had so many showings and last night got an offer.  This really is a crazy market! It will be a huge relief when the townhouse is under contract and we are officially packing boxes to move.

On Tuesday, they started on the stair railings....

Our contractor saved the original Newell from the 1939 house, which was in good condition, so we decided to reuse it, once sanded/painted and stained... It is gonna look perfect. I love being able to use some original our new/old house!

By the end of the day Tuesday, one side was done:

And the top:

Per code, we needed a railing on the other side... So this was added... the stairs looks nice:

Picture from the landing in the middle of stairs and you can see above and below:

The shower in our master bathroom is almost complete (except for slab on top pf bench).... Not sure the pics do it justice, But it looks amazing! As Brian said, it is magazine quality:

Close up of shower floor:

Master closet pics...which are actually quite hard to take, this was an origibal closet with the slope of roof, so we kept it open and made the whole area - shoe racks... I am certain these will quickly be full... And I guess storage for other stuff, but as far as I am concerned, my new closet has a shoe room... Dream come true:

Shelving and hanging space pics...

Railing in my desk/nook area is up...

Which means I can actually safely go and take a picture of my desk and shelves... I am very excited about this space!

Here was right before they put up banister and railings... Hence why I didn't go in area much:

One of my favorite spaces in the house is the mud room... Brick floors, built- ins, it is perfect:

Lockers on one side...
Doesn't photograph well, but the back of lockers are bead board - I love it:

They also started on the craft desk/ wrapping paper station on other:

Think those are all the recent updates... Still over 10 days until the cabinets are ready to be finished, so we will see what they work on between now and then.

Master bathroom

Not a ton going on this week at the house, but they did almost finish all the tile work in the master bathroom and outside in the courtyard.  No work tomorrow because of Memorial Day... But hopefully the stairs next week and a few other things. Unfortunately, our cabinets are delayed, so things may be slow until they arrive because most things are waiting on them to be installed... We are so close, yet so far. Really ready to be in - but now just have to be patient. Project for this week is selling our current house.... Cannot wait until I can check that piece off.

Making progress on the master bathroom - the shower detail looks great:

Tiles laid in the "potty" room... Yes I did call it a "potty" room.

Close up of the master shower with grout  finished:

Herringbone floor in the master bathroom with grey grout lines... Truthfully, the pics don't do justice, it looks even better in person:

Courtyard patio tile... Not my favorite and not sure why I chose tile, oh well it looks clean and if I am not going to love one... Outside would be my choice.

It is all about the details...

At the end of the day what you notice about a house are the finish details and not what is behind the walls... don't get me wrong, all that has been done to this point is important ... and that is why we did it all, but that is not what most people notice when they go into a home because they cannot see it. So far -- all the details have come together pretty close to what my vision was and I am very excited about that... Tile work and carpentry work has been the focus of the past few days... or weeks!! After getting home last weekend and showering, seeing E and Brian, I was ready to see the progress at the house in person! No surprises because everyone had sent photos while I was away, but it was confirmation of how well everything was coming together. Things over the next few weeks may be a little slow because the main cabinetry in the house has been held up... hopefully, it doesn't put us back too much and we are surprised by an early finish date!! Fingers crossed!

Starting on the stairwell - this is actually the "newell" from the original 1939 staircase. It was in good condition and since we have tried to keep some of the original things in the house, I thought it would be great if we could reuse it... obviously it will be cleaned up and refinished, but it is still original:

Top of the stairs:

Mudroom brick now complete - and the transition from the wood floors and the laundry room tile:

An original door with a crystal knob re-hung in the hallway upstairs:

Desk and shelves added to my nook area... notice the original shiplap that we left on the walls.

E's bathroom with tile and grout finished... you can see both the bathtub and the tile floor:

Guest bathroom tile finished on both the floor and the bathtub:

Starting on the tile work in our shower, the brick will go all the way to the floor and above will be a herringbone pattern (see it on the bench):

Master bathroom floor - herringbone marble - I love this:

Floor of the shower -- adding a little contrast to the bathroom (and the herringbone pattern which will be the top 1/3 of the shower laying on there):

They also floated the patio in the courtyard so they could lay the tile here this week:

Hopefully by the end of the week most of our bathroom will be finished and maybe some more of the wood work done (i.e. stairs, front door, etc.).... as things happen, I will continue to keep you posted! Have a great middle of the week!!

Renovation Raiders...

I feel like an episode of Renovation Raiders is going on at our house this week while I am out of town... my very own HGTV!!! There has been so much going on and progress made. All of the tile looks great - look forward to seeing it all in person on Saturday! The doors came in and they started hanging them yesterday. Lots of pics sent by Brian, my mom and the contractor... which have kept me in the loop with all the details - love it. Looks like they are about to start on the tile in the master bathroom... cannot wait to see how it looks!!

Here is E's bathroom with the mint green accent tiles installed:

And her bathroom floor:

Here is the bathtub in the guest bathroom:

The finishing strip on the side:

And the penny tile floor in the guest bathroom:

The mudroom brick floor:

Almost finished this afternoon:

Laundry tile floor installed:

The doors in the house, ready to be hung:

Hallway upstairs with doors hung:

Doors in the master bathroom:

Molding and baseboards in our master bedroom:

And the wainscotting downstairs in the living room/breakfast room area:

Lots of changes to see when I get home. For now... heading out for the day (on the other side of the world it is already Friday morning) and will be heading home late tonight! Cannot wait to get home to Brian, Little Miss E and see all the exciting things that have taken place at the house this week! Have a great Friday!
